Seema Malhotra MP on CPS Conviction Rates on Violence Against Women

Reacting to the CPS figures on conviction numbers for violence against women Seema Malhotra, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Preventing Violence Against Women, said,

“Today’s CPS statistics show a step in the right direction, but there is clearly much more to do to give victims the confidence to come forward and that they will be believed. Whilst conviction numbers overall are up, it is disappointing that convictions on rape and domestic abuse have fallen as a percentage of prosecutions. And with over 400 defendants under 18 years old, it is shocking that the Government is still refusing to introduce compulsory relationship and sex education in schools.”
