Yesterday Seema Malhotra MP led a parliamentary debate on the UN Day for preventing violence against women.

The debate defines violence against women as “any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty”.

The motion also supports the UN’s 16 days of action, which have already seen events and campaigns across the country and the world, end on 10 December, Human Rights Day. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the 16 days of action.
